Week 1.3
Outside of class, I've been looking around at a few places to gather some primary research.
On Saturday morning I got a coffee at Aroma on Cuba St so that I could sit and see if dogs passed me. The cafe is on the pedestrian only part of the street and has an outdoor seated area in the middle of the path. With a large amount of foot traffic, I saw around six or so dogs in the twenty minutes or so that I was sitting there. The coffee itself was enjoyable as well as peacefully watching the dogs go by. I think that this location could be a good activity for relaxing and watching the dogs, rather than going up to them and interacting. This experience is distinctive as it is in an urban environment and is in a busy area. This could have quite a nice contrast within this project in comparison to a beach or a park. Although I didn't get many photos as this was an unplanned trip, I will go back sometime this week to gather more useful primary research.
On Sunday morning I went to Island Bay and Lyall Bay to see which beach offered the better experience. Island Bay is split in half over which side dogs are allowed on. The environment was peaceful, quiet and relaxed and there was a lot of dogs running around in the dog area. I was only there for ten minutes or so, but as I was leaving more dogs were showing up.
I also went to Lyall Bay, where the environment was very different to Island Bay. It was very busy and noisy, and there were a lot of families around. I did see a few dogs whilst I was there, but because there were so many kids around I felt a little weird taking photos. I also feel like the experience at this beach wasn't as peaceful and relaxing as Island Bay, and I think I won't pursue this location.
I also started thinking that I may change my idea to where to walk your dog in Wellington, instead of just where to see them. This might make the topic easier to understand and will be better communicated through imagery and not just text.
